Domain name

People often confuse "website" with "domain name". www.australdata.com.au is a domain name. A domain name is used to effectively disguise a number. A website residing on a hosting server is reached by its IP number, but IP numbers can be meaningless unless we can remember them, so connecting a domain name to an IP makes it easier to remember a website and reach it. Domain names can be registered for one or more years. Domain names should ideally identify the product or subject of a website's content.
